Melvin M. Bonsel, 73, of Florida, formerly of Clinton, died on Monday, November 25.
He was born in Middleville, N.Y., the son of Byron and Helen (Stacho) Bonsel, and moved to Clinton at the age of 5. He graduated from Clinton Central School, Class of 1958 and served his country for four years in the Navy. In 1963, he married Dorothy Sue Evans. He and Sue retired to Betmar Acres Park in Florida in 2001. He was a former member of the Utica Curling Club, the Kirkland Jaycees (earning a JCI senatorship), a member of the Clinton Fire Department for over 25 years, a member of Clinton Kiwanis, and of the Moose Club. He also was a member of the Helmuth-Ingall's American Legion Post #232, Franklin Springs, and of the Schillings-Burns-Young VFW Post #9591, Clinton.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Kelly Williams, two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Brooke Bonsel, Melvin and Debora Bonsel; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Casey, and Molly Williams, Cody and Brandi Bonsel, and Jade and Jorden Bonsel; one great granddaughter, Alice; a sister and brother-in-law, Ellie and Derry Dubetsky; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Betsy Bonsel; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is predeceased by a grandson, Marine PFC, Joseph Filip.
