A 55-year-old Utica man is dead and a 70-year-old Clinton woman is in serious condition following a car-pedestrian accident on Route 12-B at Limberlost Road in the Town of Kirkland on Nov. 11.
New York State Police said Mark Knapp of Pleasant Street in Utica died of injuries he suffered when a car operated by Edward L. Gibbons, 74, of Utica Street, collided with him and the woman.
Beverly M. Clarey of Franklin Avenue in Clinton was taken to an area hospital and later airlifted to Upstate Hospital in critical condition.
Marcy-based BCI Inv. Allen V. Svitak said in a report that a 2012 Nissan Versa was southbound on Route 12-B when it drove onto the west shoulder and collided with the two pedestrians who were walking south on the shoulder.
Both victims were treated at the scene by Clinton Fire-Rescue and transported to St Elizabeth’s Hospital by Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Authorities said Knapp was pronounced dead at the hospital, Clarey was transferred to Upstate Hospital in critical condition, and Gibbons was uninjured, the report said.
The accident was reconstructed by Troop D personnel, assisted by Kirkland Police. Authorities said charges are pending further investigation. |
